The Cinque Terre, a unique landscape
Five small towns suspended between sky and sea, connected by over 120 kilometres of hiking paths that wind through terraced vineyards, ancient olive groves, fragrant woods and ridges overlooking the infinite blue of the Mediterranean. Welcome to the Cinque Terre National Park, a landscape shaped over centuries by man and listed since 1997 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 7,000km of dry stone walls which characterise the vertical coast made it less hard to work and cultivate, creating narrow, plain areas on which wine could grow, and small gardens could feed the local population. Here, every walk is a journey through nature and culture, land and sea.
Step by step, you will discover the true essence of this unique area, where life moves at a slower pace, the views are breathtaking, and every path tells a story.
Good physical fitness and some experience walking on hilly and steep terrain are essential, since the paths, although charming and well-marked, are not always easy and require attention and training. This package is suitable for those who are fit and want to enjoy an immersive and regenerating experience in nature, whether as a couple, with friends and family or even alone.
With the Self Guided Hiking Package, you can explore this extraordinary network of trails on your own, from the most famous ones connecting the five villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, to the less travelled ones, among sanctuaries, historic mule tracks and views that will leave you breathless.
What is CETS?
The European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS) is a certification, which enables better management of protected areas for the development of sustainable tourism. The main purpose of the charter is to increase sustainable development and management of tourism in protected areas that considers the needs of the environment, residents, local businesses and visitors.
This package includes accommodation in CETS certified establishments, carefully chosen to offer you comfort and an authentic atmosphere in Manarola, or alternatively in Monterosso, two of the five towns of Cinque Terre.
You will be provided with everything you need to walk freely and safely: a roadbook, maps, GPS tracks, local tips and telephone assistance. You will be given local tips on little-known viewpoints, traditional restaurants offering Ligurian cuisine and wineries to taste wines produced on the terraces of the Cinque Terre. If you wish, you can add special experiences such as guided tours, boat trips or pesto making classes.
As we would also like to offer the visit of this unique territory to non-hikers, this package can come in a leisure version, with a roadbook including tips for the visit of the villages. You need to be fit and able to walk distances and, above all, streets up and down hill, and stairs and steps.
