Island Hopping By Mountain Bike & Boat Southern Dalmatia MTB Standard 2022

Trogir - Split - Stari Grad - Jelsa - Vrboska - Stari Grad - Hvar - Vela Luka - Prigradica - Makarska - Omiš - Cetina River Canyon - Omiš - Pučišća - Postira - Šolta - Trogir

The combination of MTB & cruise in Southern Dalmatia fulfils a biker’s wildest dreams from trails to tranquil swim stops. A charming small ship with comfortable cabins and a traditional selection of cuisine is your floating home for the week. Packing your bags and worrying about making your next ferry connection are a thing of the past. Explore the islands on your mountain bikes, and the tour guides can all tell plenty of interesting stories along the way - a great way of getting to know the country and its people. Honey and wine tastings along the way will give insight to the everyday life of the locals. The aim is to stay off road. To save time and energy some ascends will take place on tar-sealed roads, which lead to rewarding trails, riddled with technical sections down to the sea. Descents can be technical and require experience but will spread a smile across the faces of the participants. After a thorough ride there is no better reward than to unwind in a rustic cafe before the ship collects you and brings you to the next picturesque setting. Picture perfect harbour towns invite you to enjoy an evening strolling through the winding streets or to sip an aperitif in the atmosphere of a local bar. The ship is always open and welcomes you to enjoy the ambiance of a Mediterranean evening. MTB and hybrid bike cruises often operate parallel to each other in South Dalmatia with the experience and service of one guide per group. If your partner or friend prefers the hybrid bike, there is of course the possibility to experience the journey together with only the cycling taking place in different groups. If you prefer to bike with a higher technical demand, Southern Dalmatia MTB Special Cruise, where you will only find mountain bikers on the ship and where different difficulty levels are offered wherever possible, is probably the right choice for you.

Captain reserves the right to change the route in case of bad weather conditions, crowding or other circumstances out of his control. Departures are guaranteed for minimum 10 participants. Cruise Operator reserves the right to cancel or change the ship name if necessary. Guests are obliged to follow ship rules (found in written form onboard). Guests are not permitted to bring beverages onboard the vessel that have been purchased onshore. All drinks must be purchased onboard. In the event of inappropriate behaviour, the Cruise Operator and Captain reserves the right to disembark guests. Most arrival times in port are in the late afternoon.

Port taxes, entrance fees, sightseeing and excursions (if not included in the package) must be paid in local currency upon arrival. EUR currency quoted is converted on the spot to the equivalent in Croatian Kuna.

MTB Level 2-3
Daily tours in hilly terrain at distances of 28-63km and 400-1,200m of elevation. The terrain in this region is very diverse and changes from island to island. Technical and demanding single trails alternate with wide gravel 4x4 roads and sometimes also quiet asphalt stretches, there are very few unrideable points. Various sections in the tour are offered at a higher or lower technical degree, leaving you to make the final decision.

Requirement to wear a helmet
Helmets are mandatory on all bike tours. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted helmet with you as rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required). Furthermore, we recommend riders to carry arm and leg protectors during the bike tours.

Single-Trail Classification
To ensure that you are well prepared for your bike cruise and know what technical difficult level to expect, there is a classification for all single trails that could be ridden on this cruise. The difficulty levels included in the classification coincide with the Single Trail Scale which can be found here.

Blue (Easy, S0-S1)
Small obstacles such as small roots, small stones, some erosion, gradients of up to 40%, loose surfaces, tight corners but no hairpins, obstacles can be rolled over. Skilful braking and weight shift required, riding while standing.

Red (Medium, S2)
Loose surfaces, larger stones and roots, steps and shallow stairs, gradients of up to 70%, light hairpins. Constant readiness to brake, shift of centre weight to overcome obstacles, accurate braking, consistent body tension required.

Black (Heavy, S3-S5)
Blocked single trails, many large boulders and roots, smooth/slippery surfaces, loose scree slopes, large steps/drops, extremely steep gradients of over 70%, tight hairpins. Expert level of bike control/handling required.

Riding in a group
On a guided MTB tour the speed of the group is determined by the mountain bikers on regular bikes. If you have hired an e-MTB, we ask you to respect those in the group who are riding without electric support. Those on regular bikes require more time and recovery when biking up hill. We thank you for your understanding.

Itinerary Changes
Cruise operator reserves the right to make changes to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organisational requirements. Sometimes the cruise will be run in reverse order. Cruises are dependent on weather conditions and the final decision is that of the captain. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time onboard the ship, instead of taking a planned bike tour.

We believe that only children in a good physical condition and with a minimum age of 14, with previous mountain bike riding experience are able to master the demands of this mountain bike cruise. In addition, they should have prior experience with riding techniques needed for descending on narrow trails and technical terrain. Please be aware, that smallest rental mountain bikes are suited to a body height of 1.50m and above (XS frame). Croatian law requires children under the age of 16 to wear a helmet when riding a bike.

The onboard chef is a member of the crew and prepares the breakfast and one or two warm meals a day. The catering consists of 4 x Full Board and 3 x Half Board. A packed lunch instead of lunch onboard is possible as well on the mountain bike tour. Catering starts with the dinner on the arrival day and ends with the breakfast on the departure day.

Cruise and cycle tours are conducted bilingually (English, German).

Minimum 14 / Maximum 36+

Due to specific mooring conditions and requirements in some Croatian Ports, ships are moored side by side. This makes it necessary to cross from one ship to the other where there are gaps in between each ship. Special care must be taken at all times when crossing between the vessels and guests do this at their own risk. Crew assistance will be given to those needing and requesting it. Cruises are not recommended for those in wheelchairs or with limited mobility.
