Island Hopping By Mountain Bike & Boat Kvarner Bay MTB Special 2025

Omišalj - Rabac - Cres - Martinšćica - Mali Lošinj - Veli Lošinj - Ilovik - Rab - Lopar - Rab - Baška - Krk - Malinska - Dobrinj - Omišalj

Mountain Bike & Boat Kvarner Bay MTB Special Cruise is perfectly suited for mountain bikers, an exceptional holiday, in which a seasoned biker can find exactly what they are looking for. Take a week onboard one of the charming small ships and sail to the most beautiful islands of the Kvarner Bay. The islands of Cres, Lošinj, Rab and Krk are known for their own special character and diverse landscapes. Therefore the trails are rich in variety. From flow trails to technically challenging trails, the islands offer a rich variety for every biker.

To meet the different requirements, each trip is typically accompanied by two MTB guides who, wherever possible, offer two performance levels. The tours vary in altitude, kilometres and difficulty of the trails. Level A includes trails up to S3 of the German Single Trail Scale; Level B trails S0 to S2, if not otherwise possible short sections at S3 may occur. Tour groups with less than 10 participants will be guided by one guide only. In this case, only one guided MTB level can be offered, and the guide will do their best to customise this level to the abilities within the group.

A: Approx 210km; 4,050m elevation by MTB or e-MTB, S1-S3
B: Approx 190km; 3,500m elevation by MTB or e-MTB, S1-S2, rarely S3

Day by day Itinerary

Day 1
Omišalj - Rabac

Individual arrival to Omišalj on the Island of Krk. Board the ship between 1300-1330HRS. At 1400HRS embark on your first cruise to Rabac on the Istrian Peninsula. The coastal town is surrounded by crystal clear blue waters and numerous cafes on the seaside promenade give an inviting impression. It is here that you will do your first small tour to get the bikes set up for the week. This will take place in the local Bike Skills Park. Here you can test your bike and your riding ability on the first ever constructed bike park in Croatia. The night is spent in Rabac.

A & B: Bike route approx 10km; 200m elevation

Day 2
Rabac - Cres

Today’s bike tour starts with a transfer to Labin, a village at 300m above sea level. The descent back down to the sea alternates between asphalt roads, forest tracks, and simple trails. A more technically demanding trail takes you along the coast of the peninsula with fleeting views of Rabac. Once back at the ship cruise to the Island of Cres to the main town with the same name. A quaint harbour town characterised by its Italian architecture. The night is spent here.

A: Bike route approx 32km; 500m elevation
B: Bike route approx 25km; 500m elevation

Day 3
Cres - Martinšćica - Mali Lošinj

The tour starts with an asphalt climb before turning off onto gravel roads with wonderful views over the bay of Valun steadily making your way inland. In the clifftop town of Podol your efforts are rewarded with a short break. After catching your breath, continue along natural paths and goat trails with flowy sections past the Lake Vrana in the direction of Lubenice. The final trail to the port of Martinšćica has technically demanding sections. The ship awaits your arrival in Martinšćica and takes you on a cruise to the relaxed harbour town of Mali Lošinj. The various cafes and bars along the seaside promenade offer plenty of choice to enjoy a relaxing sundowner before catching a restful night’s sleep.

A: Bike route approx 30km; 700m elevation
B: Bike route approx 34km; 600m elevation

Day 4
Mali Lošinj - Veli Lošinj - Ilovik

The Island of Lošinj is 'sculpted' for mountain bikers. Here you have the tough choice either to bike along the coastline through lush pine forests once around the peninsula, past picturesque bays, or to take a more technically challenging ride to the harbour of Veli Lošinj. Veli Lošinj was originally the capital town of the island before its harbour became too small for modern day boats and Mali Lošinj overtook it in size and popularity. In the afternoon, cross over to the Island of Ilovik where you can enjoy the afternoon, exploring the island by foot and going for a swim.

A: Bike route approx 30km; 600m elevation
B: Bike route approx 25km; 400m elevation

Day 5
Ilovik - Rab - Lopar - Rab

In the morning cruise to the Island of Rab. A small island, but great for mountain biking. The tours take place on seaside trails along historic roman roads with exceptional views over the island and on flowy sections through the Dundo Forrest with constant glimpses of the clear blue sea. Those seeking to ride more technically challenging trails will be pleased to know that the island offers many rocky and blocked riding sections. The island offers great variation for all riders. The Old Town of Rab, with its four clock towers, is regarded as one of the most picturesque old towns on the Adriatic coast. A wonderful town to spend the evening in looking back on a day of great riding.

A: Bike route approx 37km; 700m elevation
B: Bike route approx 33km; 550m elevation

Day 6
Rab - Baška - Krk

In the morning, cruise to the port of Baška on the Island of Krk. Today’s bike tour takes you up an initial climb on an asphalt road before taking smaller paths and natural trails as you make your way to the 'Moon'. The landscape on the north side of the island is characterised by its moon-like landscape. This side of the island is exposed to the full forces of the regions strongest winds, leaving nothing but rocks in its path. Cycle through this incredible landscape before taking an epic ride along a historic roman road back down to the sea. The flowy ride with breathtaking views over the sea will leave you with a long lasting impression. From Baška, cruise to capital of Krk, with its lovely Old Town. Enjoy an evening exploring the alleyways with your guide and relaxing on one of many beautiful spots near the sea. The night is spent in Krk.

A: Bike route approx 31km; 700m elevation
B: Bike route approx 28km; 700m elevation

Day 7
Krk - Malinska - Dobrinj - Omišalj

A short cruise will take you to the seaside town of Malinska, still on the Island of Krk. From here your bike tour leads us along natural paths and side roads to Dobrinj. You will be rewarded with stunning views of the northern part of the Island of Krk. On a clear day, you can see the Učka Mountain. Passing one of the many caves on the island, bike on a narrow path along the coast back to the ship in Omišalj, where you have enough time to walk through the town, go for a swim or relax onboard before the trip ends with a cosy get-together.

Disclaimer
Due to specific mooring conditions and requirements in some Croatian Ports, multiple ships are moored side by side. This makes it necessary to cross from one ship to the other where there are gaps in between each ship. Special care must be taken at all times when crossing between the ships, and guests do this at their own risk. Crew assistance will be given to those needing and requesting it. View from cabin windows and balconies may be obstructed when moored in port and alongside other ships. Cruises are not recommended for those in wheelchairs or with limited mobility.

Itinerary Changes
Cruise operator reserves the right to make changes to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organisational requirements. Sometimes the cruise will be operated in reverse order.

Helmet Requirement
Helmets are mandatory on your bike tour. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required). Furthermore, we recommend riders to carry arm and leg protectors during the bike tours.

MTB Level A: 2 - 3; Level B: 2
Moderate to challenging daily tours in hilly terrain. The terrain in this region is very diverse and changes from island to island: technical and demanding single trails alternate with wide gravel 4x4 roads and sometimes also quiet asphalt stretches; there are very few unrideable sections.

Each day you are able to decide between tour variation A and B.
Level A: up to aprx. 60 km and aprx. 750m of elevation
Level B: up to aprx. 50 km and aprx. 600m of elevation

Single-Trail Classification
To ensure that you are well prepared for your bike tour and know what technical difficult level to expect, a classification has been created for all single trails that could be ridden on our tours. The difficulty levels included in our classification coincide with the Single Trail Scale which can be found at http://www.singletrail-skala.de/.

Blue (easy, S0 - S1): small obstacles such as small roots, small stones, some erosion, gradients of up to 40%, loose surfaces, tight corners but no hairpins, obstacles can be rolled over. Skilful braking and weight shift required, riding while standing.
Red (medium, S2): loose surfaces, larger stones and roots, steps and shallow stairs, gradients of up to 70%, light hairpins. Constant readiness to brake, shift of centre weight to overcome obstacles, accurate braking, consistent body tension required.
Black (difficult, S3 - S5): blocked single trails, many large boulders and roots, smooth/slippery surfaces, loose scree slopes, large steps/drops, extremely steep gradients of over 70%, tight hairpins. Expert level of bike control/handling required.

Group Riding Pace
On a guided MTB tour the speed of the group is determined by the mountain bikers on regular bikes. If you have hired an e-MTB, we ask you to respect those in the group who are riding without electric support. Those on regular bikes require more time and recovery when biking up hill. We thank you for your understanding.

Bringing Children/Teenagers
We believe that only children in a good physical condition with a minimum age of 14 who have previous MTB riding experience can keep up with the demands of our mountain bike tours. In addition, they should have prior experience with riding techniques needed for descending on narrow trails and technical terrain. Please be aware, that our smallest rental mountain bikes are suited to a body height of 1.50 m and above (XS frame). Croatian law requires children under the age of 16 to wear a bicycle helmet when riding a bike. When travelling with children, we recommend our Multi-Adventure Tours in Greece and Croatia which are specifically curated for families and offer family-friendly pricing.
