Island Hopping By Hybrid or E-Bike & Boat Kvarner Bay 2024

Omišalj - Cres - Martinšćica - Mali Lošinj - Veli Lošinj - Mali Lošinj - Molat - Božava - Veli Rat - Savar - Zadar - Mandre - Novalja - Lun - Rab - Krk - Vrbnik - Omišalj

Protected by the towering Velebit Mountain in the east and embraced by the Istria Peninsula in the northwest lies the Kvarner Bay of Islands. Quiet coves with crystal clear sea surround the dramatic landscapes of the Kvarner Bay. Green hills and rocky moon landscapes give way to small harbour towns rich in both history and culture. Discover the charm of the Adriatic Sea by bike and boat onboard one of the charming small ships. The days begin with a rich breakfast leaving you fit and ready to explore the diversity of the Kvarner Bay on guided cycling tours. Be it the medieval town of Rab, the car-free road in the sky on Dugi Otok or the contemplative life of the dwellers on the “flower island” of Molat, each day brings with it something new to discover. Evenings are mostly spent in picturesque harbour towns with winding alleyways where a great range of bars and cafes provide the perfect spot for a relaxing evening. This cruise sometimes takes place parallel to the MTB & Boat Kvarner Bay Standard cruise on the same boat. One tour guide accompanies the mountain bikers whilst the other accompanies the hybrid cyclists. This is perfect for travellers who wish to spend their holiday together, but do not share the same riding style.

Approx 195km by hybrid or e-bike, Fitness Level 2-3

Day by day Itinerary

Day 1
Omišalj - Cres

Individual arrival in Omišalj, a wonderful, small harbour town on the Island of Krk. Embarkation on the small ship between 1400HRS and 1430HRS. The ship leaves the harbour at approx 1500HRS, taking us to the Island of Cres in approx four hours of sailing. On Cres, we take an evening walk through the Venetian old town.

Day 2
Cres - Martinšćica - Mali Lošinj

After breakfast we start our tour from the town of Cres to Martinšćica. The boat awaits our arrival and lunch is served during the cruise to the Island of Lošinj. If the weather is good, the captain will arrange a swim stop along the way before tying off in the harbour town of Mali Lošinj. The port with its colourful facades and numerous cafes offers its visitors a welcoming atmosphere for a relaxed evening.

Cycle route approx 28km

Day 3
Mali Lošinj - Veli Lošinj - Mali Lošinj - Molat

We cycle along the seaside promenade to the south of Lošinj and visit the picturesque small harbour town of Veli Lošinj before reaching the ship for lunch. In the afternoon, we cross over to the Island of Molat where we can enjoy another short cycling tour. We spend the night in a peaceful and secluded port on the island.

Cycle route approx 20km + 10km

Day 4
Molat - Božava - Veli Rat - Savar - Zadar

During breakfast, the ship leaves Molat taking us past numerous small islands to the "spice island" of Dugi Otok. Our bike tour starts in the bay of Božava, which is surrounded by pine woods, agaves, and tamarisk trees. We cycle along an almost traffic-free road to the northernmost point of the island, where the light house of Veli Rat stands proudly, fulfilling its duty guiding sailors safely on their way since 1849. A ride along the island’s “Road in the Sky” brings us to the peaceful harbour of Savar or Brbinj. There will be ample time for a swim break in the afternoon before we continue on to Zadar. Zadar has been the political, cultural and spiritual centre of Dalmatia for centuries. 3,000 years of history have left their imprint on the character of this city and there are many things to be admired: the mighty fortified walls with their bastions, the loggia and the early Romanesque St Donatus Basilica. In the evening our tour guide takes us on an extensive walk through the lively city centre.

Cycle route approx 32km

Day 5
Zadar - Mandre - Novalja - Lun - Rab

After a morning crossing, we reach the Island of Pag. We cycle through the harsh yet delightful landscape, passing fig and olive trees along the way. Over the centuries, the people living here built numerous stone walls for protection against the wind. Starting in Mandre, we cycle on the narrow peninsula until we reach the sea once more in Lun. From here, the ship takes us to Rab Island, one of the sunniest places in Europe. The town of Rab, the fortified capital of the island, was built in the Middle Ages on a wedge-shaped headland and is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the trip. The four famous bell towers are just one example of the town’s beauty. There is plenty of time to explore the narrow alleys with their numerous cosy cafes in the evening.

Cycle route approx 34km

Day 6
Rab - Krk

Today we enjoy a round tour through diverse landscapes on the Island of Rab. Starting from the old town, our tour takes us through alternating landscapes from coastal promenades, to shaded forests and secluded bays. After returning to the boat we start our cruise towards the Island of Krk. Along the way we hope to stop for a refreshing swim from the boat. We spend the evening in the historical town of Krk.

Cycle route approx 25km

Day 7
Krk - Vrbnik - Omišalj

On our last full day, we cycle over the ridge of the island, covered by fragrant macchia, to a valley of vineyards and then onwards to the small museum town of Vrbnik in the northeast. The town, built on a 50m high cliff and surrounded by vineyards, is home to the famous white wine ‘Žlahtina’. Another peculiarity that Vrbnik has to offer is the second narrowest alley in the world. The tour leads on across the island through old villages and rich vegetation to Omišalj. Along the way we have a chance to swim in the bay of Soline. A cheerful evening meal onboard the boat gives us time to celebrate the wonderful week with fellow travellers and tour guides.

Disclaimer
Due to specific mooring conditions and requirements in some Croatian Ports, multiple ships are moored side by side. This makes it necessary to cross from one ship to the other where there are gaps in between each ship. Special care must be taken at all times when crossing between the ships, and guests do this at their own risk. Crew assistance will be given to those needing and requesting it. View from cabin windows and balconies may be obstructed when moored in port and alongside other ships. Cruises are not recommended for those in wheelchairs or with limited mobility.

Itinerary Changes
Cruise Operator reserves the right to make changes to the planned itinerary due to changing wind and weather conditions as well as organisational requirements. Sometimes the cruise will be conducted in reverse order.

Bike Level 2-3
The cycling routes require a basic level of fitness, which you should have acquired through regular cycling. The routes can reach an altitude of 200-500m. The daily routes of approx 20-45km will take us up through hilly and mountainous terrain and can be completed without time constraints. You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs, where walking your bike is of course permitted. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs, during which they are, however, also permitted to push their bicycles. Upon consultation with your tour guides, it may be possible for you to cycle on your own along suitable, recommended routes.

Group Riding Pace
On regular cycling tours, the cyclists on regular bicycles determine the pace. We ask guests who have reserved an e-bike to be mindful of this and to acknowledge that the regular cyclists need time to rest and take longer to climb the hills. We thank you for your understanding.

Children
We believe that only children with a good physical condition and previous bicycle tour experience and a minimum age of 10 are able to master the cycle tours with their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental e-bike is 1.20m for hybrid bikes and 1.50m for e-bikes. It is mandatory for all participants on tours to wear a bicycle helmet.

Catering
The onboard chef is a member of the crew and prepares the breakfast and one or two warm meals a day. The catering consists of 2 x Full Board and 5 x Half Board. Catering starts with the dinner on the arrival day and ends with the breakfast on the departure day.

Language
Cruise and cycle tours are conducted bilingually (English, German).
