Island Hopping By Bike & Boat Kvarner Bay 2025

Omišalj - Cres - Martinšćica - Mali Lošinj - Veli Lošinj - Mali Lošinj - Molat - Božava - Veli Rat - Savar - Zadar - Mandre - Novalja - Lun - Rab - Krk - Vrbnik - Omišalj

Protected by the towering Velebit Mountain in the east and embraced by the Istria Peninsula in the northwest lies the Kvarner Bay of Islands. Quiet coves with crystal clear sea surround the dramatic landscapes of the Kvarner Bay. Green hills and rocky moon landscapes give way to small harbour towns rich in both history and culture. Discover the charm of the Adriatic Sea by bike and boat onboard one of the charming small ships. The days begin with a rich breakfast leaving you fit and ready to explore the diversity of the Kvarner Bay on guided cycling tours. Be it the medieval town of Rab, the car-free road in the sky on Dugi Otok or the contemplative life of the dwellers on the “flower island” of Molat, each day brings with it something new to discover. Evenings are mostly spent in picturesque harbour towns with winding alleyways where a great range of bars and cafes provide the perfect spot for a relaxing evening. This cruise sometimes takes place parallel to the MTB & Boat Kvarner Bay Standard cruise on the same boat. One tour guide accompanies the mountain bikers whilst the other accompanies the hybrid cyclists. This is perfect for travellers who wish to spend their holiday together, but do not share the same riding style.

On this trip, we offer you the option of either joining your guides on the cycle tours or completing the cycle routes individually at your own pace using the free RideWithGPS route app for your smartphone as well as GPS tracks and maps.

Approx 195km by hybrid or e-bike, Level 2-3

Day by day Itinerary

Day 1
Omišalj - Cres

Individual arrival in Omišalj, a wonderful, small harbour town on the Island of Krk. Embarkation on the small ship between 1400HRS and 1430HRS. The ship leaves the harbour at approx 1500HRS, taking you to the Island of Cres in approx four hours of sailing. On Cres, take an evening walk through the Venetian old town.

Day 2
Cres - Martinšćica - Mali Lošinj

After breakfast, start your tour from the town of Cres to Martinšćica. The boat awaits your arrival and lunch is served during the cruise to the Island of Lošinj. If the weather is good, the captain will arrange a swim stop along the way before tying off in the harbour town of Mali Lošinj. The port with its colourful facades and numerous cafes offers its visitors a welcoming atmosphere for a relaxed evening.

Cycle route approx 28km

Day 3
Mali Lošinj - Veli Lošinj - Mali Lošinj - Molat

Cycle along the seaside promenade to the south of Lošinj and visit the picturesque small harbour town of Veli Lošinj before reaching the ship for lunch. In the afternoon, cross over to the Island of Molat where you can enjoy another short cycling tour. Spend the night in a peaceful and secluded port on the island.

Cycle route approx 20km + 10km

Day 4
Molat - Božava - Veli Rat - Savar - Zadar

During breakfast, the ship leaves Molat taking you past numerous small islands to the "spice island" of Dugi Otok. Your bike tour starts in the bay of Božava, which is surrounded by pine woods, agaves, and tamarisk trees. Cycle along an almost traffic-free road to the northernmost point of the island, where the light house of Veli Rat stands proudly, fulfilling its duty guiding sailors safely on their way since 1849. A ride along the island’s “Road in the Sky” brings you to the peaceful harbour of Savar or Brbinj. There will be ample time for a swim break in the afternoon before continuing on to Zadar. Zadar has been the political, cultural and spiritual centre of Dalmatia for centuries. 3,000 years of history have left their imprint on the character of this city and there are many things to be admired: the mighty fortified walls with their bastions, the loggia and the early Romanesque St Donatus Basilica. In the evening your tour guide takes you on an extensive walk through the lively city centre.

Cycle route approx 32km

Day 5
Zadar - Mandre - Novalja - Lun - Rab

After a morning crossing, reach the Island of Pag. Cycle through the harsh yet delightful landscape, passing fig and olive trees along the way. Over the centuries, the people living here built numerous stone walls for protection against the wind. Starting in Mandre, cycle on the narrow peninsula until you reach the sea once more in Lun. From here, the ship takes you to Rab Island, one of the sunniest places in Europe. The town of Rab, the fortified capital of the island, was built in the Middle Ages on a wedge-shaped headland and is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the trip. The four famous bell towers are just one example of the town’s beauty. There is plenty of time to explore the narrow alleys with their numerous cosy cafes in the evening.

Cycle route approx 34km

Day 6
Rab - Krk

Today enjoy a round tour through diverse landscapes on the Island of Rab. Starting from the old town, your tour takes you through alternating landscapes from coastal promenades, to shaded forests and secluded bays. After returning to the boat, start your cruise towards the Island of Krk. Along the way hopefully stop for a refreshing swim from the boat. Spend the evening in the historical town of Krk.

Cycle route approx 25km

Day 7
Krk - Vrbnik - Omišalj

On your last full day, cycle over the ridge of the island, covered by fragrant macchia, to a valley of vineyards and then onwards to the small museum town of Vrbnik in the northeast. The town, built on a 50m high cliff and surrounded by vineyards, is home to the famous white wine ‘Žlahtina’. Another peculiarity that Vrbnik has to offer is the second narrowest alley in the world. The tour leads on across the island through old villages and rich vegetation to Omišalj. Along the way you have a chance to swim in the bay of Soline. A cheerful evening meal onboard the boat gives you time to celebrate the wonderful week with fellow travellers and tour guides.

Disclaimer
Due to specific mooring conditions and requirements in some Croatian Ports, multiple ships are moored side by side. This makes it necessary to cross from one ship to the other where there are gaps in between each ship. Special care must be taken at all times when crossing between the ships, and guests do this at their own risk. Crew assistance will be given to those needing and requesting it. View from cabin windows and balconies may be obstructed when moored in port and alongside other ships. Cruises are not recommended for those in wheelchairs or with limited mobility.

Itinerary Changes
Cruise Operator reserves the right to make changes to the planned itinerary due to changing wind and weather conditions as well as organisational requirements. Sometimes the cruise will be conducted in reverse order.

Helmet Requirements
Helmets are mandatory on your bike tour. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as the rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required at time of booking).

Fitness Requirements Level 2-3
The cycling routes require a basic level of fitness, which you should have acquired through regular cycling. The routes can reach an altitude of 400-700m. The daily routes of approx 30-45km will take you up through hilly and mountainous terrain and can be completed without time constraints. You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs, where walking your bike is of course permitted. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs, during which they are, however, also permitted to push their bicycles. Upon consultation with your tour guides, it may be possible for you to cycle on your own along suitable, recommended routes. It is also possible to remain on board the boat. This tour is primarily designed as a guided group tour. After prior consultation with your tour guides and selection of a suitable route, nothing stands in the way of individual cycling. During the daily program briefings, your tour guides will explain everything you need to know about the next day's stage. If you prefer to cycle alone rather than with a group, you can cycle the tours independently and at your own pace. For orientation, you will be provided with access to the free RideWithGPS route app for your smartphone, a detailed cycle map and GPS tracks. Your guides cycle the same route as you. They are therefore close by and can be contacted by phone in case of emergencies, problems or questions. Instead of a bike tour, you can also opt for a half or full day of swimming on the boat.

Group Riding Pace
On regular cycling tours, the cyclists on regular bicycles determine the pace. We ask guests who have reserved an e-bike to be mindful of this and to acknowledge that the regular cyclists need time to rest and take longer to climb the hills. We thank you for your understanding.

Children
We believe that only children with a good physical condition and previous bicycle tour experience and a minimum age of 10 are able to master the cycle tours with their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental e-bike is 1.20m for hybrid bikes and 1.50m for e-bikes. It is mandatory for all participants on tours to wear a bicycle helmet. When travelling with children, we recommend our Multi-Adventure Tours in Greece and Croatia which are specifically curated for families and offer family-friendly pricing.
