Active & Cappuccino Cruise Kvarner Bay & Northern Dalmatia 2023

Rijeka - Cres - Mali Lošinj - Veli Lošinj - Mali Lošinj - Molat - Zadar - Zrmanja River Canyon - Mandre - Lun - Rab - Krk - Njivice - Rijeka

Featuring a well-done blend of swimming, sunbathing, short bike tours, sightseeing tours, guided walks and easy hikes, “Active & Cappuccino” cruises could be best described as “active light with a pinch of culture”. The kayak safari, including a picnic beneath the waterfalls, is one of the finest highlights to be mentioned. The programme, always accompanied by a tour guide, is aimed at all those who don’t just want to spend their cruise on the Sun Deck and in the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic, but don’t want either to be forced to go on daily bike tours of 40-50km or spend hours on hikes. And, of course, there’s enough time left over to sit around and enjoy a relaxed cappuccino. “Active & Cappuccino” cruise is also suitable for families with children, as it’s also possible to hire children’s bikes. According to the motto “anything goes but nothing’s compulsory”, you decide for yourself which activities you want to participate in, or if you would just like to spend one or more days on the ship relaxing and enjoying your free time.

Day by day Itinerary

Day 1
Rijeka - Cres

Embarkation in the port of Rijeka takes place between 1100HRS and 1300HRS at the latest. The bicycles will be waiting for you in front of the ship. After having chosen the right bike for you, the staff will proceed with loading the bicycles onboard. There follows a Meet & Greet including a welcome drink with the cruise representative, and you will have a chance to get to know the crew and your fellow passengers. While enjoying a snack, we weigh anchor and head towards the Island of Cres. We stop in one of the bays to take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea for the first time. Then we continue to the town of Cres. Upon arrival, we will take a walk through the town. Dinner onboard and overnight stay in Cres. (D)

Day 2
Cres - Mali Lošinj - Veli Lošinj - Mali Lošinj

After breakfast, we head towards the Island of Lošinj. On our way, we will stop in a beautiful bay to enjoy a long break for swimming and sunbathing. We continue our journey, and after lunch onboard, we enter the port of Mali Lošinj. The Island of Lošinj is covered with pine forests and is well known for its 300 cloudless or only slightly cloudy sunny days per year. With a bit of luck we may even see dolphins playing in the waves, because the waters surrounding the Island of Lošinj offer home to more than 220 dolphins registered by the ‘Adriatic Dolphin Project’. Afterwards we will make comfortable bicycle tour to the picturesque Veli Lošinj with its colourful houses (approx 4km). On the way back we will visit the ‘Mediterranean Fragrant Garden’, where many different kinds of plants are grown. On our guided tour through the garden, we will have the opportunity to learn more about some of them. Opportunity for dinner in the konoba of the Mediterranean Fragrant Garden or in Mali Lošinj, overnight stay onboard. (B, L)

Cycle route approx 4km

Day 3
Mali Lošinj - Molat - Zadar

Our first destination of the day is the Island of Molat. Starting from the pier of the village of Molat, we go by bike to the village of Zapuntel, and then on the same way back to the ship (approx 18km). Those who do not want to take the bike tour, can make a hike across the island. After lunch onboard, we will have some time for swimming and sunbathing before continuing our voyage towards Zadar, the former capital of Dalmatia. After docking in Zadar, our guide will take you on a tour of the old town, which is surrounded by impressive walls and offers many historical monuments. The guide will show you the main attractions such as the Roman Forum, the round Church of St Donatus, St Anastasia Cathedral and the unique Sea Organs, their sounds and “melodies” are created purely by the movement of the waves. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to enjoy dinner in one of the restaurants or konobas. Overnight stay in the port of Zadar. (B, L)

Cycle route approx 18km

Day 4
Zadar - Zrmanja River Canyon - Mandre

After breakfast, bus excursion to the Zrmanja River. Here we will take over our kayaks, and after a briefing we will head down the river over rapids and waterfalls (in case of very high water levels the excursion will be carried out as rafting with large inflatable boats). At lunchtime we will have a picnic at one of the most beautiful parts of the river. Then we continue paddling through the Zrmanja Canyon with its unique scenery and bird life. At the destination of the kayak safari there is ample opportunity for swimming in the crystal clear waters of the river. Bus transfer to Mandre on the Island of Pag, where we will return to our ship. Dinner onboard and overnight stay. (B, D)

Zrmanja River Kayak Safari or Zrmanja River Rafting

Day 5
Mandre - Lun - Rab

The Island of Pag stands out above all by its extremes - partly meagre like a lunar landscape, partly covered with lush green mountain fields, where numerous sheep graze, “producing” the famous Pag cheese. We continue by ship from Mandre to Lun, a small place at the north-western tip of the island. There, we will make a short walk to visit one of the most beautiful olive groves in the entire Mediterranean area. Spread over a surface of 24 acres of land there are approx 80,000 impressive olive trees. Some of them are more than five metres high and older than 1,500 years. Enjoy the beauties of nature during a guided walk through the olive grove and learn more about olives and the precious oil and their significance for a healthy diet. After lunch onboard and an extended break for swimming and sunbathing, we set off for Rab, the capital of the homonymous island. The old town of Rab with its unique bell towers stretches along a narrow rocky peninsula, surrounded by sea on three sides. Three streets run through the old town, the ‘Lower Street’ with cafes and pubs, the ‘Middle Street’ with boutiques, souvenir shops and ice cream parlours, and the ‘Upper Street’, which will take you to the four churches with their bell towers. After arrival guided tour of Rab. Enjoy dinner in one of the numerous restaurants. Overnight stay onboard. (B, L)

Day 6
Rab - Krk - Njivice

After breakfast, we take an easy bicycle tour through the pine-covered peninsula of Suha Punta (approx 12km). Those who wish to take a more challenging tour can alternatively enjoy a “mountain hike” on the Kamenjak (408m). The mountain not only protects the town of Rab from the cold north winds, but it also offers a fantastic view on the Velebit mountain range, the islands, the town of Rab and the Nature Park of the Kalifront Peninsula. After returning onboard with plenty of appetite, we will enjoy lunch and leave the port of Rab, heading to a secluded bay. Here we will anchor for a swimming break, before continuing to the Island of Krk, the last island of our trip. After a walk through the old town of Krk, we head for Njivice, where we will enjoy the Captain's Dinner onboard. (B, L, D)

Cycle route approx 12km or Mount Kamenjak Hike (408m)

Day 7
Njivice - Rijeka

After breakfast, we will leave the Island of Krk, sailing in the direction of Rijeka. On our way to Rijeka, we will have plenty of time to enjoy lunch and a last refreshing dip in the crystal clear water of the Adriatic Sea. After this last swimming break, we will bid farewell to the Adriatic Sea and enter the port of Rijeka. Once we moored the ship, we take a walk to the sanctuary and the fortress of Trsat, a pilgrimage site above the town. You will not regret climbing the 485 steps because from the fortress you will enjoy a magnificent view over the entire Kvarner Bay. Afterwards you can go out for dinner to one of the numerous restaurants ashore. Overnight stay in Rijeka. (B, L)
